NYPD's Real Time Crime Center, Mission Critical Information for Law Enforcement
Deputy Chiefs' Chuck Dowd and Ruben Beltran

The New York City Police Department's Real Time Crime Center has begun to revolutionize how the NYPD provides information critical to the mission of crime fighting. The ability to deliver information to Detectives literally in minutes that in the past took days has transformed the investigative process. Search engine capabilities deliver information that allows detectives to quickly establish "non-obvious" relationship information during the critical initial phases of investigations that help solve crimes in hours rather than days or weeks.  Deputy Chiefs' Chuck Dowd and Ruben Beltran will describe actual examples of investigations solved using these new methods. They will discuss the future of information technology and how a dedicated Public Safety broadband network will allow for the delivery of information in real time that was previously unavailable to First Responders. They'll describe how information stored in many different databases can be supplied to Officers that will help them make decisions critical to their safety and accomplishing their mission - protecting the public they serve.

First to arrive. Last to leave: Mobile Satellite Communications for Public Safety Professionals
Ted O’Brien, Vice President and General Manager, Americas, Iridium

The presentation will cover the important role played by mobile satellite services (MSS) in disaster response, relief operations and continuity planning.  In the immediate aftermath of a natural or man-made disaster (fire, flooding, hurricane, tornado, and terrorist attack), the terrestrial landlines and wireless networks are typically destroyed or overwhelmed.  In these cases, mobile satellite phones and data links are the only critical communication lifeline with the outside world. Ted O’Brien will provide an overview of the benefits of satellite voice and data service for the public safety community and will offer practical, useful advice on how first responders and other public safety professionals can utilize MSS.  He will also address important issues concerning interoperability of satellite systems with other public safety networks.
